
- Life moves at a more relaxed pace. Paperwork, appointments and offical processes can take longer than you might expect. At first it can be a bit frustrating, but soon we realised that slowing down is part of the Portuguese way of life
- Learning a little Portuguese goes down a long way. People really do appreciate it when you make the effort, we strongly recommend this phrase as a starting point “Desculpe ,o meu Portugues e mau” ‘Sorry my Portuguese is bad” it breaks the ice and usually makes people smile.
- Many places won’t take credit cards/debit card, in many ways cash is still king (good for them) The likes of small businesses, Cafes and small bars. Keeping a few coins handy is also a good idea. So its good to check before you order.
- The price of vehicles is a little more expensive here than the rest of Europe, however depending on what your after it maybe worth purchasing a vehicle from Spain or France. Even after import duty you can still in may cases save a bit of money.
- The general cost of living is one of the best in Europe and at least a third lower than Australia. Making
